Geoff Lawton — Zaytuna Farm & Greening the Desert
The permaculture teacher who made the desert bloom with nothing but earthworks, mulch, and water harvesting.
Geoff Lawton took his design certificate with Bill Mollison in 1983 and has since become one of permaculture’s best-known teachers. At Zaytuna Farm in New South Wales he runs the Permaculture Research Institute, training designers from around the world.
He is most famous for the Greening the Desert projects in Jordan’s arid Dead Sea valley, where swales, water harvesting, and heavy mulching coaxed a green, productive system out of salty, sun-baked ground — a vivid proof of what regenerative design can do on the hardest land.
