Urban Food Forest at Browns Mill
The largest free public food forest in the United States, growing food access into a low-access Atlanta neighbourhood.
At around 7.1 acres, Browns Mill is the largest free public food forest in the country — a former farm four miles south of downtown Atlanta, replanted with more than 2,500 edible and medicinal plants. It was developed by the City of Atlanta with the Conservation Fund, Trees Atlanta, and the U.S. Forest Service.
Its purpose is squarely about people: the surrounding neighbourhood had limited access to fresh food, and the forest was designed to help close that gap while building community around growing and harvesting together.
