moderate Z-sit · mermaid
Side-sitting
Both knees folded to one side — a relaxed, informal way to be on the floor that most people already fall into. Its whole trick is remembering to switch sides.
What it asks of you
- External rotation in the front hip, internal rotation in the back hip
- Some rotation through the spine
How to sit it well
- 1 Let the whole pelvis settle; don't perch on one buttock
- 2 Keep the ribs stacked over the hips rather than collapsing sideways
- 3 Deliberately switch to the other side every few minutes
- 4 Use a hand or cushion to level the low hip
Good for
- Lounging
- Floor play with kids
- Casual conversation
- Transitioning between positions
Props that help
- Cushion under the low hip
- Bolster to lean into
