Your first experiment
Build a small community, run a season, and learn from what changes.
Play Courtyard Block in your browser, or open project.godot in Godot 4.7.2 and press F5. The browser downloads the game on first launch.
You start with a small generated community and three possible futures. The aim is to solve problems and discover unexpected tradeoffs, rather than win a score.
Try building together
- Stay in Collaborate, or choose Guide if you want to approve every neighbour project.
- Tap a home. In Build, choose a side, room width and depth. Preview room addition shows its footprint, cost and construction time. Try another side if it overlaps a neighbour.
- Choose Build this idea, then +1 week. The owner pays for construction and the crew takes time to finish it. Neighbours can also suggest or undertake improvements.
- Open World to read residents’ proposals. Approve an idea or choose Not now. In Build, protect a home if you want its layout to stay under your control.
- Open Futures and visit Let it grow. It began with the same homes, people and weather, but grants neighbours more freedom. Did extra space improve their situation or increase bills? Did shared services keep up?
Find another beginning
In World, browse suggested starting points or enter a seed. Lock the layout, climate, resources or people, then reroll the other layers. The preview describes the next community. Start these three futures backs up the current world and starts a new experiment.
Move around
Drag to pan; scroll, pinch, or use + / − to zoom. Turn, Q and E rotate the view. Space pauses. On phones, Scene / Details switches between the scene and its controls; panels scroll. All essential actions have on-screen controls.
Make the experiment yours
Workshop exposes the living kit as editable JSON: costs, work durations, space preferences, resident priorities, delegated budgets and utility recipes. Validate a remix to start three futures with your rules. You can also import material packs for more wall choices, or export an AI drafting prompt. Nothing is automatically sent to an AI service.
Share this world downloads its inputs and recorded decisions. A friend can use Futures → Import a friend’s world to replay and continue it. Export worlds you want to keep; local browser storage can be cleared.
This prototype simulates a synthetic year with fixed households, home heat, utilities, accounts and construction. It is not calibrated to real communities, and it does not yet simulate generations or natural disasters. Read the living-world guide for mechanics, modding, sharing and model boundaries.
The earlier fixed-design annual comparison is still available from Workshop → Open the original annual lab, with its separate community lab guide.
